Tailgate wiring loom, applies to Rover 200/25 and ZR
The tailgate wiring loom YMN 101940 of the 200/25/ZR also including various other models, do tend to cause plenty of electrical problems, especially in the section of where the wires pass from the body to tailgate through two small rubber protection sleeves, which are located on either side of the tailgate hinges, the wiring inside the sleeves are associated with the following. The sleeve on the left carries just the water supply tube for the rear screen wash, sleeve on the right carries a multitude of wires for window heater element, high level brake light etc,
Taking the above information into account its still always best to first decide if there actually is a problem within the wiring harness, as an example, if both the brake light bulbs are out, then this could possibly be a serious wiring fault, or just a blown fuse.
Wires inside the sleeve will constantly fold over each other each time the tailgate is in use, so they will fray and eventually break. Any damaged wires will eventually create really annoying electrical problems, soldering and insulating a couple of broken wires is not a problem, but if its beyond a really decent repair then a replacement loom is a much better option.
